Australian Momentum – BIG W Joins ACT
ACT welcomes Australian retailer Big W’s decision to join the global network. As an ACT member, Big W has committed to ensuring living wages in its garment and footwear supply chain through freedom of association, collective bargaining and responsible purchasing practices.
Jenny Holdcroft, IndustriALL Assistant Secretary and ACT member, said ‘We welcome Big W’s commitment to ACT and to living wages in the garment industry. It is especially encouraging in these times of crisis that a brand is prepared to work together to build a more sustainable garment industry for the future.’
Big W joins Australian retailers Cotton On, Kmart and Target as ACT members. ACT Chief Executive Jennifer Schappert says that the Australian momentum is encouraging. ‘Today, four of Australia’s largest and most influential clothing and footwear brands are members of ACT.’ ‘It is clear’ Ms Schappert noted that ‘Australian brands are leading the way in taking action on living wages in their supply chains. We look forward to the contributions Big W will make as an ACT member.’
